Ministry Teams & Committees
Ministries help people relate to God by providing opportunities through which they can experience God's presence through worship services, singing praises to God, studying the scriptures, and offering their gifts; giving of their talents, tithes, and time. Every team could use your help. The team leaders are listed on the Contact Us page.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Church Council The Church Council is charged with the planning and implementation of programs for nurture, outreach, witness and resources at Lafayette Park United Methodist Church. The Council envisions, plans, implements and annually evaluates the mission and ministry of the church. Meetings are scheduled on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall
Board of Trustees The role of the Board of Trustees is to supervise, oversee, and care for all real property (our building and facilities) of Lafayette Park United Methodist Church.
Publicity Committee The Publicity Committee is responsible for managing all levels of communications for Lafayette Park United Methodist Church. This includes the monthly newsletter, News and Views, advertising in local publications, posting to bulletin boards, this web site and the Media Team which runs the audio equipment during service.
Finance Committee The Finance Committee promotes and implements sound financial, as well as theological, practices in the management of all monetary resources. This committee monitors the church’s budget, approved by the Church Council. The Treasurer and Financial Secretary are members of this committee. The Committee coordinates the schedule of the counters after Sunday’s worship.
Committee on Lay Leadership The Committee on Lay Leadership is responsible for identifying, developing, deploying, evaluating and monitoring the Christian spiritual leadership Lafayette Park United Methodist Church. The Lay Leader along with the Pastor also serve as the co-chairs of the Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee is responsible for assembling a list of candidates to serve on all of the committees of our church.
Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPR) The Staff Parish Relations Committee is responsible for engaging in biblical and theological reflections on the mission of the church, the primary task, and ministries of the local church. The committee also oversees the relationship of the Church Council and the parish staff.
Stewardship Committee Stewardship is a way of life! The Stewardship Committee challenges and supports the Lafayette Park United Methodist congregation into joyful sharing of God-given time, talent and treasures that lead to exciting discipleship.

PROGRAM:
Education The Education Committee ensures that both children and adults have an opportunity for learning. It explores creative ways to reach and educate persons of all ages by providing a variety of opportunities for Christian learning. These opportunities can be found in adult and children’s Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, new member orientation, Bible Studies and Confirmation classes.
Member Support This Team cares for all who call Lafayette Park United Methodist their church home. Its responsibility is to form all who come into disciples of Jesus Christ.
Mission Team The Mission Team is taking action to help others in everyday life and emergency situations, both locally and throughout the world. The team will lead LPUMC to be the compassionate hands and feet of Christ in the world. Activities include Volunteer In Mission teams, Habitat for Humanity home building and preparing dinners at Shalom House
Outreach The Outreach present and offers Lafayette Park United Methodist Church to the community through church functions open to the public. The team will emphasize getting the name and mission of our church out into the community and making the invitation to come and experience us. Events include PrideFest, Pumpkin Patch, Easter Egg Hunt, and Neighborhood Halloween Party.
Worship Team The Worship Team is responsible for all aspects of Worship, including Liturgists, Choir, Music Director, nursery, ushers and acolytes. The team provides worship for our Lord and Savior wherein it does whatever it takes to touch all and invite growth in discipleship
FELLOWSHIP:
United Methodist Women (UMW) A member of United Methodist Women is anyone who commits herself to the PURPOSE and chooses to belong. United Methodist Women celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to become members. Being a member of The United Methodist Church is not required nor is there any minimum age requirement. Out of a commitment for mission locally and globally with women, children and youth, United Methodist Women choose to participate in meetings, prayer, financial giving, study, action and service.
United Methodist Men (UMM) The purpose of the UMM is to 1) encourage creative men’s leadership in the United Methodist Church. 2) To promote a better understanding of men’s Christian service responsibility through study, worship, commitment, dedication, and participation. 3) To deepen the spiritual life of men by developing a close fellowship of consent, concern, and cooperation.
These are exciting and joyful times to be in fellowship with Lafayette Park UMC. Through this congregation of faithful followers, we are truly blessed to be a blessing both in our community and around the world. Through your continuing response to the call for prayers, presence, gifts and service God will continue to do GREAT and AMAZING THINGS! And there is joy in that indeed!
